Diagnostic Abdomen MRI Scan

Affordable and Accessible Scans

The abdomen contains several vital organs. Most of the time, any pain you feel there is just due to a stomach ache. But if it recurs and you don’t know the cause, it’s time to get an examination.

However, you don’t want to have to wait around or require a doctor’s referral just to get an accurate diagnosis. That’s why Vista Health is here to provide affordable and accessible abdomen MRI scans.

When to Get an Abdomen MRI

An abdomen MRI will be beneficial to you if you’re experiencing any of the following with no obvious causes:

  • Prolonged constipation
  • Vomiting
  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite
  • Sudden weight loss
  • Pain

What an Abdomen MRI Scan Detects

Your radiologist will use an abdomen MRI scan to examine the inner structures and tissues of that area. The images will show your:

  • Liver
  • Biliary tract
  • Kidneys
  • Spleen
  • Parts of your bowel
  • Pancreas
  • Adrenal glands
  • Lymph nodes

Based on the images, your radiologist will be able to identify areas of concern, tissue damage and abnormalities. The possible issues they may find include:

  • Tumours
  • Cirrhosis
  • Abnormalities in the bile ducts and pancreas
  • Inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis)
  • Gallstones

With the information this provides, your radiologist will be able to diagnose your condition accurately. Your physician can then use the report to prescribe treatment.

How To Prepare for Your MRI Scan

Abdomen MRIs are non-invasive and require little preparation. In most cases, you will only have to provide your radiologist with information about your medical history. They may need to utilise different techniques or recommend a different examination procedure based on whether you have:

  • Claustrophobia
  • A foetus
  • Allergies to MRI contrast material
  • Pacemaker
  • Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD)
  • Artificial heart valves
  • Artificial joints
  • Cochlear implants

Most implants aren’t affected by MRIs, but you should inform your radiologist regardless to ensure your safety.

You may be asked to fast before the procedure in some cases, but this is rare. You can eat and take medication as you would normally unless told otherwise.

The procedure itself is straightforward. You just have to remove any metal from your body, change into a gown, lie down on the MRI table and stay still. The scan will be done within 15 to 90 minutes, depending on how many images we need to take.
