Understand the health of your heart
ECHO is short for Echocardiogram, a specialised cardiac ultrasound scan used to assess the structure, condition and function of your heart. It produces images of the heart’s chambers, walls, valves and blood vessels, providing early diagnosis of potential problems.
Vista Health offers fast, affordable access to private ECHO heart scans, with full reports from specialist Cardiac Physiologists and Consultant Cardiologists delivered within three working days. In addition, we also offer ECG Testing in clinic which monitors your heart rate, rhythm and electrical activity.
What is an Echocardiogram Heart Scan?
An echocardiogram - ECHO for short - uses ultrasound waves to produce detailed images of your heart. Fast, painless and non-invasive, it’s the same technology that’s used for pregnancy scans.
When we perform your private ECHO scan, a report will be produced by a Cardiac Physiologist and will be overseen by our Consultant Cardiologist clinical lead.
Your private echocardiogram heart scan could provide reassurance by showing that your heart is in good health. But if there is a potential problem, it can catch the early signs of heart disease, or identify heart abnormalities, and help guide doctors in treating your condition.
What Does an Echocardiogram Show?
Your ECHO scan will show the structure of your heart and nearby blood vessels, and check how blood is flowing. If there’s an infection of the valves (endocarditis), thickened heart walls (cardiomyopathy) or damage to the heart muscles, the ECHO should reveal and gauge the severity of the problem. It can also detect the effects of congenital heart disease.
Typically, ECHO heart scans are used to:
- detect heart failure
- assess left and right ventricular function
- detect valvular heart disease
- diagnose cardiomyopathy, pericardial disease and aortic dissection
Why would I need a private ECHO heart scan from Vista Health?
A quick, affordable ECHO heart scan from Vista Health could catch the early signs of heart diseases or conditions, helping to plan treatment going forward. You might choose to have an echocardiogram if you’ve experienced any of these symptoms:
- regular breathlessness, and unexplained tiredness
- persistent ankle swelling
- a persistent cough
- rapid heart rate
- unexplained weight loss
