What is a scan, and how is it different from a screening service?
A scan is a procedure where the patient is examined using technology to examine parts of the body, and to locate, identify and assess diseases, injuries and other potential problems. MRI, CT and Ultrasound are examples of different technology used in scanning.
Although the techniques used during scanning and screening are similar, a scan is usually performed where a patient is showing the symptoms of a specific disease or condition. The scan will focus on the relevant area of the body, providing images and data to help clinicians plan treatment.
Scanning, on the other hand, is generally performed where patients don’t yet have symptoms. It’s used for preventative health checks, and to evaluate the likelihood of diseases developing in later life.

What conditions can a private diagnostic scan detect?
Why choose Vista Health for a private diagnostic scan?
Vista Health is a specialised provider of private diagnostic services, and the UK’s leading independent operator of private MRI and other scanning facilities. We’re focused entirely on diagnostic services, so we invest in the latest technology and techniques and make them accessible and affordable.
With over 60 locations across the UK, no waiting lists and seven-day working, we can offer you an affordable, convenient scan appointment, fast.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. A key feature of the Vista Health private scanning service is that you can self-refer or book online. This removes the need to arrange an appointment with your GP or other health professional, which could be inconvenient and add to the time you need to wait.
If, for any reason, you need or would prefer to have a referral, we can offer our own private GP referral service. This will be a virtual appointment, held online at a time that suits you. Consultation rates are available with a 20% discount when you book along with your scan.
