Did you know that your gut health affects everything from your immune system and skin to your brain and mood?
With a comprehensive bowel health assessment, you aren’t just looking after your gut but also your overall health and wellbeing. This includes detecting the early signs of bowel cancer, which is one of the most common types of cancer in adults in the UK, affecting one in 17 men and one in 20 women.
More than half of all bowel cancer cases are preventable, and when caught early, most cases can be treated successfully. That’s why a bowel health assessment really can make all the difference to your quality of life.
A bowel health screen is a thorough check of the health and function of your gastrointestinal system, which includes all of the organs and tissues that are involved in digesting what you eat and drink.
It involves analysing your stools and blood, alongside lab tests to check for infection, inflammation, blood in your stools and other problems.
A bowel health screen allows you to catch signs of disease early – often before you even notice any symptoms – so you can get the treatment you need before things get worse.
It can detect signs of bowel cancer, Crohn's disease, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and many more gastrointestinal problems.
Whether you want to take preventative steps to protect your bowel health or have a family history of bowel conditions, a VistaBowel Health assessment can give you the clarity and peace of mind you need.
Your VistaBowel Health assessment will include:
Initial GP Consultation
Start your health check with a 15-minute virtual appointment with one of our experienced GPs. This is your opportunity to discuss the details of your bowel health assessment and ask any questions you may have.
Full Blood Count
You will be sent an at-home pinprick blood test kit. Simply complete the test as instructed pop it in the post to our lab where it will be analysed to detect infection, inflammation and other health issues.
Q-Fit Test
This test checks for blood in your stools. This can be a sign of bowel cancer. However, it is important to note that blood in your stools can also be caused by other conditions, such as ulcerative colitis, rectal ulcers and diverticular disease.
Calprotectin Test
This test measures levels of a protein in your stools called calprotectin. Raised levels can suggest you have a bowel condition that involves inflammation, such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, as opposed to a bowel condition that doesn’t involve inflammation, such as IBS.
H. Pylori Test
This test detects the presence of a type of bacteria called Helicobacter pylori, which can cause ulcers in your stomach and small intestine.
Follow-Up GP Consultation
After your tests, you’ll have a 15-minute virtual follow-up appointment with one of our expert GPs to discuss your results. They will provide personalised recommendations based on your findings, so you can better understand your health and make informed decisions about any next steps.
