Fast, affordable private MRI Liver scan
LiverMultiScan® is a non-invasive MRI-based test that provides information about your liver tissue health by measuring levels of
fibro-inflammation, fat and iron in your liver.
Vista Health offer fast access appointments for this MRI Liver scan with results returned within three working days.
What is LiverMultiScan?
LiverMultiScan is a quick 15-minute, contrast-free MRI scan which provides measures that quantify liver tissue health.
LiverMultiScan consists of three measures that have been shown to correlate with the amount of fat, iron and fibro-inflammation in the liver.
LiverMultiScan reports include detailed cross-sectional maps of your liver that correspond to each measure.
The results from LiverMultiScan will help your doctor determine extent of liver damage and what type of treatment is best for you.

What do we measure?
CT1
CT1 means ‘corrected T1’, which is a measure of inflammation and fibrosis. T1 is the name of an MRI sequence that is used in the evaluation of fibrosis and tissue inflammation.
What do the colours on the Ct1 map mean?
The map shows a flat slice through the body. The cooler colours demonstrate a lower ct1 score, and warmer colours show a higher ct1 score.
T2
T2* is a type of MRI sequence that is used to assess whether there is an excess of iron in the liver. Too much iron excess can lead to liver damage. Almost 5% of the UK population have higher than normal liver iron.
PDFF
Proton Density Fat Fraction (PDFF) is used to measure liver fat percentage, with 5.6% being normal. A liver fat percentage above this could suggest Fatty Liver Disease which 1 in 3 people in the UK suffers from.
Why is early discovery of liver disease important?
Liver disease is often called a 'silent' disease because there are often few or no symptoms until severe damage occurs and the liver loses its ability to regenerate.
Approximately 50% of patients with liver disease receive their first diagnosis when they suffer from jaundice or internal bleeding. By this point, liver disease is often irreversible and a liver transplant is the only treatment option available.
Liver disease is the third leading cause of premature deaths in the UK. Almost all of these deaths could be avoided through earlier diagnosis. More proactive testing can help identify early signs of liver disease when lifestyle changes could still be effective and damage can be reversed.
Screening for liver disease has been advocated for high-risk individuals such as those who are obese or overweight, have high cholesterol, high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes.

Can you help me understand my results?
If you’d like to discuss your scan results with one of our GPs, you can arrange a consultation. There’s a 20% discount on consultation fees if you book when you arrange your scan.
Can I refer myself?
We accept self-referral in most cases. Self-referral allows you to take control of your own health with direct access to our own specialist diagnostic services. We also offer a GP consultation service to provide you with a referral if you need one.
What if I need an open or upright scanner?
For some patients - including those with restricted mobility, anxiety and people with claustrophobia - the standard ‘tunnel-style’ MRI scanner may be challenging. An alternative is the open and upright scanner, which can be more comfortable for some patients. This provides comfort and reassurance, and offers a variety of scanning positions including sitting, standing, leaning, and lying.
What body part can I have scanned?
We offer a range of MRI scans to assist you in obtaining the diagnosis you require.
