Accurate, real-life measurement of blood pressure
Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) is a simple, non-invasive process which measures your blood pressure over an extended time - usually up to 24 hours. It can give a more accurate reading than a ‘one-off’ measurement taken at a single point in the day.

What is Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring?
Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) is the measuring of your blood pressure while you move around, living your normal daily life. It’s measured over a period of up to 24 hours.
The test is done using a cuff around one of your arms. At regular intervals, it’s pumped up to restrict the blood flow in your arm. The attached digital monitor then records your blood pressure.
Why would I need ABPM?
Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring may be recommended for several reasons, including

to exclude higher-than-normal readings caused by ‘white coat syndrome’
What are the advantages of ABPM?
When your blood pressure is measured, the reading will record the level at the time of measurement. But blood pressure varies throughout the day, so to get an accurate idea of your overall health, ABPM takes many readings over an extended period, usually up to 24 hours.
Another problem with single-point measurement is that some patients get anxious when they visit a clinical environment, leading to temporarily raised levels known as ‘white coat syndrome’. ABPM avoids this by recording your blood pressure while you’re going about your everyday life.
Understanding your blood pressure
Blood pressure is one of the first diagnostic indicators in healthcare. It is measured as 2 figures:

Systolic pressure - The pressure when the heart pushes blood out

Diastolic pressure - The pressure between beats & when the heart is resting

Here’s what to expect when you book ABPM with Vista Health

Step 1
Contact our dedicated Patient Care Team to book an appointment, or for advice and support.

Step 2
Attend your chosen centre on the day of your appointment. It’s helpful if you can wear loose-sleeved clothing, allowing room for the cuff which will monitor your blood pressure.

Step 3
Go about your day as normal. The cuff will inflate and record your blood pressure at regular intervals. Once the test period is over, you’ll return the equipment and get your results.

What if I cannot refer myself?
Self-referral is available in most circumstances. However, in some instances, we may need further clinical information. We will contact you if this is the case. If needed, we offer a virtual GP consultation service where we can provide you with a referral and a follow-up consultation to discuss results.
Can I refer myself?
We accept self-referral in most cases. Self-referral allows you to take control of your own health with direct access to our own specialist diagnostic services. We also offer a GP consultation service to provide you with a referral if you need one.
When will I get my results?
We aim to deliver all results within three working days of your appointment. If you have not heard from us within this timeframe, please contact us.
How long will my appointment take?
It depends on the scan or screening you choose, but most appointments take less than 90 minutes. We ask you to arrive around 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
How do I book an appointment?
